We actually got the design inspiration from a Japanese hood scoop overlay. Working with overseas suppliers we have stumbled upon a lot of interesting products. There are pictures above of a similar product mixed in with the first image of the 2014 hood scoop. This listing is for the 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 WRX and STI. It is similar to our 2015+ version which is listed elsewhere.
A little vinyl in the right places can really make your vehicle stick out compared to any stock vehicle! Please note the design of this overlay. It runs parallel to the front of the hood scoop. It maintains even spacing and the reason for this will be clear during installation. For one, it is easier to install that way and two, it ultimately will look better this way.
Great accent to add contrast and texture. Even better if it covers up harsh paint fading!
This material is durable and will last for years. I source the vinyl for these products from US suppliers. They are often made in the US or Europe. Material standards are high.
For the 3D Carbon material, do not apply wax. Just clean with normal soap and water.

When purchasing vinyl overlays, keep in mind that not all materials are created equally. We use premium vinyl which has high initial costs, but are the industry standards for high quality materials.

Semi Gloss Black is US sourced Avery brand and Matte Black is from Orafol which is a German company.
INSTALLATION
Clean the surface of the hood. The easiest way to apply this is to wet the back of the vinyl.
You can even use a little soap. This will allow you to slide the vinyl around, but will require the use of heat to really make it stick. This method is highly recommended. Using heat from a hair dryer or heat gun will be essential. Just make sure you use small amounts of heat and work you way up. If it would burn you, it will probably burn the material.
Start at the very back of the hood scoop. Center the overlay up on the hood scoop and start pushing out all the water / soap with your fingers. Do not use a squeegee or anything else that could potentially scratch the material. Continue until you reach the corners. Should anything come up in the few hours after install, just use heat immediately to press it down. Over time the bond becomes stronger and the water you used will evaporate completely.
The DIY install will leave you proud of the work you've done. A great conversation piece as others will probably want to know how you did it all.
I timed myself and this took 10 minutes to install. The paint on my car is starting to weather on the plastic bits and this sticker covered that weathering right up on my hood scoop for very little money. Note that the first picture you see of this item in the description is a bit deceptive...the pic is the black sticker on a black hood scoop surround...you are only getting the sticker. Definitely use the hair dryer (or very light use of a heat gun). If you see any ripples in the sticker, it's water trapped underneath. Push it out and the wrinkle with disappear. Read the installation instructions above to make sure you do it right.
The texture of the matte carbon material looks great, and the dimensions fill out the scoop nicely. Just be sure to take the time to read and follow the installation instructions. Without soapy water and heat, I don’t think it would be possible to install it properly. You definitely want soapy water do you can slide it across the surface and get the placement just right, and the material is too rigid to fit the contours in the back corners of the scoop when cool. When sufficiently heated and gently smoothed/stretched, I got good adherence and a clean, even fit.
It’s definitely a better look than the cracked finish on my hood scoop, and gives an appearance of visual contrast and depth that I like.
